What are Duped Items?

What are they?

Duped (duplicated) items are copies of original items created through a Steam exploit. While they function identically in-game, a duped item shares the same original ID as the legitimate one, meaning multiple copies exist when only one should.

Since at least early 2025, a small group has been abusing this vulnerability at scale, targeting wearables, ethereal gems, arcanas, crimsons and rare couriers. This is well known among experienced traders and collectors, but largely invisible to everyone else.

Why it matters:

  • Items worth $10K–$25K have crashed to $4K or less. Buyers who paid full price absorb the entire loss
  • Sellers actively offload dupes privately at full price to unsuspecting buyers
  • If Valve cracks down, duped items could be revoked entirely, leaving buyers with nothing
