Terms and Conditions
Effective date: April 14, 2026
1. Overview
These terms govern your use of DupeScan ("the Service"), a community-driven tool for identifying duplicated Dota 2 items. By accessing or using the Service, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
DupeScan is an independent project run by a single individual. The Service is provided as-is, with no warranties of any kind. Paid features offer additional convenience and expanded usage but do not alter the as-is nature of the Service. Please read these terms carefully — they include important limitations on liability.
By using the Service, you confirm that you are of legal age in your jurisdiction to enter into a binding agreement, or that you have obtained parental or guardian consent to do so.
2. Nature of the Service
DupeScan is an informational tool. It cross-references publicly available Steam inventory data against a community-maintained database of reported duplicated items. The Service exists to help Dota 2 traders make more informed decisions — it does not facilitate, mediate, or guarantee any trades or transactions.
The Service is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Valve Corporation or Steam in any way. "Steam", "Dota 2", and related trademarks are the property of Valve Corporation.
Features, prices, and the underlying database evolve over time. The core functionality of the Service is available at no cost, allowing you to evaluate it fully before making any purchase.
3. Operator Identity & Contact
The Service is operated by an individual established in an European Union member state. The handling of personal data in connection with the Service is described in the Privacy Policy.
Most communication with the operator goes through the in-app feedback form, which is available once you are signed in with your Steam account. Where a written record is needed — for example, a legal notice or a privacy request that cannot reasonably be made through the feedback form — the operator can also be reached by email at: lageliyf.nacsepud
4. No Guarantees on Accuracy
The data displayed by the Service comes from community submissions and the Steam API. The operator does not guarantee that:
- Any item flagged as duplicated is actually duplicated.
- Any item shown as clean is free from duplication.
- The database is complete, up-to-date, or free from errors.
- Community submissions have been verified beyond the Service's voting system.
- The Steam API will continue to provide the data the Service relies on.
The Service is a reference tool, not a definitive authority. You should always perform your own due diligence before making trading decisions. A result from this Service — whether "clean" or "flagged" — should be treated as one data point among many, not as a final verdict.
5. Not Financial or Trading Advice
Nothing on this Service constitutes financial advice, trading advice, or a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold any virtual item. Any trading decisions you make based on information from this Service are entirely your own responsibility.
6. Community-Submitted Content
The Service allows authenticated users to submit reports of duplicated items and to vote on the validity of submissions. By submitting content, you agree that:
- Your submissions are made in good faith and to the best of your knowledge.
- You will not knowingly submit false, misleading, or malicious reports.
- Your submissions become part of the public database and may be viewed by other users.
- The operator may remove, modify, or reclassify any submission at their discretion.
- You will not attempt to manipulate the voting system or abuse the submission process.
The Service is a tracking system for duplicated in-game items. When a Steam account appears next to a tracked item — whether in a search result, in a downloadable report, or in any other surface of the Service — it is recorded as part of an item's history, not as an accusation against the person behind that account. The presence of a duplicated item in an inventory does not, on its own, mean the holder caused the duplication; many accounts that appear in this database are unknowing carriers of items they bought, traded, or received from others. Distinguishing between original sources and downstream holders is precisely what an item-history tracker is for.
The operator does not verify every submission independently. The community voting system is the primary mechanism for validation. The operator is not responsible for the accuracy of community-submitted data.
Most of what the Service shows is generated on demand from a session — the search you ran, the report you downloaded — and is not a permanent public listing of any individual. The dataset of tracked items is the persistent layer; the per-account views built on top of it are session results, not bulletins.
7. Acceptable Use
- Use the Service to harass, defame, or target other users or Steam account holders.
- Use scripts, bots, macros, or any other automated or non-human-controlled means to interact with the Service, including to submit reports, cast votes, trigger checks, or perform any other action that would otherwise require genuine human input.
- Scrape, crawl, or otherwise extract data from the Service in bulk without the operator's prior written permission.
- Attempt to circumvent rate limits, authentication, or other protective measures.
- Submit false reports to damage someone's reputation or manipulate item prices.
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose.
- Interfere with the operation or availability of the Service.
Violation of these rules may result in your access being restricted or revoked. Where the violator holds active paid features, see section 15.
8. Account & Access
Some features require signing in with your Steam account. By signing in, you authorize the Service to retrieve your public Steam profile information (Steam ID, display name, avatar) as described in our Privacy Policy.
You are responsible for any activity that occurs under your session, including activity by any person who uses your account with or without your permission. Termination of access is governed by section 15 — broad discretion applies to free use, while access tied to active paid features can only be terminated for cause.
The operator is not responsible for activity on the Service that results from unauthorized access to your session or Steam account, unless the unauthorized access was caused by the operator's own negligence. If you believe your session has been compromised, you should notify the operator through the in-app feedback form and then sign out.
You may request deletion of your account from your profile page. Account deletion removes your user record and access to extended features. It does not remove item records you contributed to the database, as these are part of the community dataset and are critical to the functionality of the Service. Once your deletion request is processed, you will no longer be able to sign in with the same Steam account, and any unconsumed credits or active paid feature unlocks tied to that account are forfeited.
Account deletion requests are processed manually and may take up to 30 days. You may cancel your request by signing back in within 7 days of submitting it. After the cancellation window closes, the request is queued for processing and can no longer be reversed.
9. Paid Features
Most of the Service is free. A small set of optional paid features is offered, currently consisting of: Seeing Stone, Credit Pack, Max Watchlist Slots, Max Batch Capacity. The names, prices, and benefits of each are displayed on the support page in your profile before you commit to a purchase.
Payment is processed exclusively through an external cryptocurrency payment processor (see section 12). The operator never receives or stores card numbers, wallet addresses, or other financial credentials.
- The Seeing Stone is a one-time purchase. It is not a subscription, does not auto-renew, and remains active for as long as your account exists.
- Search credits do not expire, are not transferable between accounts, and are tied to the Steam account that purchased them. Purchased credits are consumed only after any free monthly credit grant has been used.
- The watchlist lets you monitor Steam profiles on a recurring schedule. Each automated check consumes one credit, the same as a manual search. Watchlist slots are earned through contributor progression or expanded through purchased add-ons.
- Add-on unlocks (currently Max Batch Capacity and Max Watchlist Slots) require an active Seeing Stone and are one-time purchases tied to the Steam account that bought them.
- If you delete your account, any unconsumed credits, the Seeing Stone, and all add-on unlocks tied to that account are permanently forfeited and are not transferred or refunded.
At the moment of purchase, you will be asked to expressly request immediate delivery of the digital content and to acknowledge that doing so causes you to lose the 14-day right of withdrawal described in section 10. You cannot complete a purchase without this express acknowledgment.
The operator may from time to time issue promotional codes or vouchers that grant credits, feature unlocks, or other benefits. These are issued at the operator's sole discretion, may be subject to conditions or expiration, and do not constitute a purchase. The operator reserves the right to revoke or modify any promotional benefit at any time.
10. Right of Withdrawal & Refunds
If you are a consumer in the European Union, the Consumer Rights Directive (2011/83/EU) gives you 14 days to withdraw from a distance contract for digital content. There is one important exception relevant to the Service: under Article 16(m) of that Directive, the right of withdrawal is lost where the supply of digital content begins with the consumer's express prior consent and the consumer's acknowledgment that the right is thereby lost.
Because every paid feature on the Service is delivered immediately and in full to your account upon successful payment, the express-consent step described in section 9 is built into the purchase flow. Once you tick that box and complete the payment, your 14-day withdrawal right is waived, and your purchase becomes final.
This waiver does not affect, and cannot be used to exclude, the rights you have under EU consumer law for digital content that does not conform to the contract — in particular the rights set out in Directive (EU) 2019/770 (objective and subjective conformity, repair or replacement, price reduction, termination of the contract). If a paid feature you bought does not work as described, sign in and reach the operator through the in-app feedback form on your profile.
Where a refund is owed (for example, a non-conformity claim under the previous paragraph, or a payment that fails to deliver the feature you bought), refunds are issued in the same cryptocurrency that was used for the original payment, valued in USD at the exchange rate that applied when the original invoice was issued. The operator cannot guarantee that the value of that cryptocurrency at the moment the refund is sent will match its value at the moment of purchase.
11. Intellectual Property
The Service's code, design, and original content are the property of the operator. The community-submitted database of duplicated items is a collective effort and is made publicly available for the benefit of the community.
"Steam", "Dota 2", and all related logos, trademarks, and game assets are the property of Valve Corporation. Item names, images, and metadata displayed on the Service are sourced from the Steam API and remain the property of their respective owners.
12. Third-Party Services
The Service integrates with third-party services including the Steam Web API, hCaptcha, Web3Forms, and a cryptocurrency payment processor for paid features. Your use of these services is subject to their respective terms and privacy policies. The operator is not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or conduct of any third-party service. The operator makes no guarantee that any third-party service the Service depends on — including but not limited to APIs, authentication providers, payment processors, anti-abuse services, and analytics — will remain available, accurate, structurally compatible, or free from changes that affect the Service. If any third-party service is changed, restricted, or discontinued in a way that degrades or removes a feature of the Service, this does not entitle you to a refund of any paid features.
The Service may contain links to external websites (e.g. Steam profiles, trade offers). The operator has no control over and assumes no responsibility for the content or practices of any linked sites.
13. Limitation of Liability
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law. The operator does not guarantee continuous, uninterrupted, error-free, virus-free, or secure access to or operation of the Service. This includes, but is not limited to, implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
For paid features, the statutory rights granted to consumers by EU law — including the conformity rights under Directive (EU) 2019/770 referenced in section 10 — are not waived and apply in full. Nothing in these terms limits or excludes any liability that cannot be limited or excluded under applicable law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot be excluded by mandatory statutory provisions.
Subject to the previous paragraph, and to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the operator shall not be liable for any:
- Financial losses from trades made based on information from the Service, whether an item was flagged or shown as clean.
- Losses arising from inaccurate, incomplete, or outdated data — including false positives (items incorrectly flagged) and false negatives (duplicated items not detected).
- Losses arising from community-submitted content, including fraudulent or malicious reports.
- Damages resulting from unauthorized access to or alteration of the Service or its data.
- Interruptions, downtime, or discontinuation of the Service.
- Actions taken by Valve, Steam, or any third-party service provider — including changes to or discontinuation of any API, authentication provider, payment processor, or other dependency — that affect the Service, items, inventories, or accounts.
- Any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, regardless of the cause of action.
For paid features specifically, and except where mandatory statutory provisions provide otherwise, the operator's aggregate liability to a single user in connection with paid features shall not exceed the total amount that user paid to the operator in the twelve months preceding the event giving rise to the claim.
You acknowledge that you use the Service at your own risk.
14. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the operator from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Service, your violation of these terms, or your violation of any rights of a third party. This indemnity does not apply where the law prohibits it, in particular against consumers acting outside their trade, business, craft, or profession.
15. Termination
Free use of the Service may be suspended, restricted, or terminated by the operator at any time and for any reason, with or without prior notice. The operator may also discontinue the Service entirely at any time. The operator's obligations under these terms are subject to applicable law and legal process; the operator may comply with law enforcement, regulatory, or court requirements notwithstanding any contrary term.
Where you hold an active paid feature (the Seeing Stone, an unconsumed credit balance, or any add-on unlock), the operator will only suspend or terminate access to those paid features for cause — for example, breach of the acceptable use rules in section 7, fraud or chargeback abuse, a legal requirement, or sustained abuse of the Service.
Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. Any provisions of these terms that by their nature should survive termination (including limitation of liability, indemnification, and governing law) will remain in effect.
16. Dispute Resolution & ODR
These terms are governed by the laws of an European Union member state, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer protection laws that may apply in your country of residence. Any disputes arising from or related to these terms or the Service shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of that member state, again without prejudice to mandatory consumer protections in your country of residence.
If you are an EU consumer and you have a dispute with the operator that cannot be resolved by reaching out through the in-app feedback form, you may use the European Commission's Online Dispute Resolution platform: ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr. The operator is not currently committed to using a specific alternative dispute resolution body, but will respond to ODR-platform notifications received via the email contact in section 3.
17. Changes to These Terms
These terms may be updated from time to time. Material changes will be noted at the top of this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised terms. Where a change materially affects an active paid feature you already hold, the version of these terms in force at the moment of your purchase continues to govern that purchase.
These terms may contain errors, omissions, or unintentional inconsistencies. Where the operator becomes aware of such issues, they will be corrected in good faith. An error or omission does not create an obligation or right that was not intended.
18. Language
These terms are originally drafted in English. If you access a translated version (for example via browser auto-translate), the English version shall prevail in the event of any conflict or ambiguity.
19. Severability
If any provision of these terms is found to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable, that provision shall be limited to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
These terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and the operator regarding the Service and supersede any prior communications, representations, or agreements, whether written or oral.
20. Contact
For day-to-day questions about these terms, sign in and use the in-app feedback form. For matters that need a written record (such as a formal legal notice), the email contact in section 3 is also available: lageliyf.nacsepud
